The Organisers' View...
IIPSEC has yet again fulfilled its primarily aim, to allow the industry to gain knowledge about changing technologies and how their business can benefit from them. The combination of the educational programme and product showcase provided ample time for exhibitors, speakers and fellow visitors alike to engage with one-another.
IIPSEC Director Paul Hennings stated, "Although the pressure of the global situation has taken its toll on the event, the exhibitors were once again extremely pleased with the quality of the visitors and delegates alike".
Adding "There are very few events where you can spend quality time with quality people, qualify your leads, establish working relationships and have an indepth conversation with genuine prospects - All in three days and under one roof".

David Cawkell, Managing Director of SeSys Ltd, commented that these Two Major awards received for the TORCH Camera, confirmed that our market research with feedback from our customer base has justified the Product development. Furthermore, whilst the overall attendance numbers may have been down at the IIPSEC2009, we were more than impressed with the quality of enquiries for our product range.
Dedicated Micros Wins IP in Security Innovation Award
For Emergency Messaging and Mass Notification System.
Dedicated Micros (part of AD Group) has secured a prestigious IP in Security Innovation Award for a revolutionary capability that can transform NetVu Connected CCTV systems into a sophisticated Emergency Messaging and Mass Notification System.
The result, which saw Dedicated Micros come top in the Best Software Product category, was announced during an Awards Dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Coventry, on Wednesday 28 January, in conjunction with the IIPSEC 2009 exhibition.
When deployed the award-winning Emergency Messaging System (EMS) provides authorities, police and end-users with an unparalleled situational awareness and two-way communication capability with specified assets should a major incident or a disaster occur; there is also the potential to generate revenue through a Mass Notification System (MNS) and, simultaneously, to continue to perform the surveillance tasks required to secure any facility.
The leading edge Emergency Messaging and Mass Notification System, developed by Dedicated Micros and parent company AD Group - take advantage of the inherent ability of all NetVu Connected systems to support a local display output and communicate over an IP network. Normally this is used by an operator to view scenes from a CCTV system or, if positioned in a public area, to provide a sense of security that they are being monitored and to act as a deterrent to criminals. Now, with Dedicated Micros' Emergency Messaging and Mass Notification System, it is possible to offer the police, authorities and other users through the already established CCTV infrastructure the ability to create a two-way communication system unlike any other mass market system.
In practical terms, the system comprises NetVu Connected systems installed within a transport infrastructure (such as on trains and at railway stations), in buildings around a University campus or even across a city.
As all of these NetVu Connected systems are addressable, the solution allows operators to identify all units in a given geographical area and pinpoint them for precise, directed, communications. For example this could be to receive a message initiator through the use of a Graphic User Interface such as Pick-a-Point, or through a simple SMS or even an FM radio broadcast in the event of a disaster.
The beauty of the intelligent EMS and MNS solution is that NetVu Connected units in the field when receiving such a message can determine their GPS position in relation to an incident and respond accordingly - this may mean that a different message is displayed on screen as a result. A powerful rules engine also helps to determine whether the initiator received is of relevance. The system has been designed to be user friendly so text or rich media messages can be created dynamically by the operator and displayed on screen using an interface which has been built on open platform web technologies.
Pauline Norstrom, Director of Worldwide Marketing at Dedicated Micros said: "We are delighted to have won the Best Software Product category in the IP in Security Innovation Awards, underlining as it does the industry-leading nature of the Emergency Messaging and Notification capability which we can now offer in conjunction with our NetVu Connected surveillance solutions".
The key commercial advantage with the Emergency Messaging and Mass Notification System is the low cost of implementation because it is able to leverage the initial investment in NetVu Connected equipment and network to deliver additional capabilities. Also any subsequent display infrastructure costs can be offset against the benefit of general information display or even direct advertising revenue.
As the NetVu Connected systems used in the solution have a unique identifier they can be located and messages tailored to the scenario, providing actionable results to a diverse range of recipients this is in stark contrast to many other solutions which are non-discriminate and broadcast to all devices. The scope of the solution is truly impressive; all IP connected units have the capability to become a messaging display such as a single NetVu Connected camera like the CamVu 2000. In fact even systems which are not being used for CCTV surveillance (such as an IPTV unit) but feature a compatible Codec, such as that supported by our sister company ChipWrights’ latest 5361 Visual Signal Processor, can be added.

Dedicated Micros launches ANPR Optimised Camera at IIPSEC 2009
Dedicated Micros - part of AD Group – used the recent IIPSEC 2009 exhibition to launch its innovative HyperSense Technology in a range of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Optimised Cameras to effectively capture and record vehicle licence plates - even when faced with headlight glare.
Available in analogue and IP models, Dedicated Micros' unique HyperSense technology removes ambient light from a scene only leaving objects that strongly reflect the Infra Red (IR) light emitted by the integrated IR LED array.
Mr Yash Patel, Executive Director CCTV Europe, JVC Professional Europe
“In my view, everyone who is involved or looking to get involved in IP networked Security solutions and CCTV should attend IIPSEC in January. JVC are continuing to support this exciting show having been exhibiting at IPSEC from day one. We had such a great response at last years event that we are increasing our booth size to more than double”.
“The quality of the visitors and fellow exhibitors are of the highest calibre and personally it is a pleasure to meet with so many people who have genuine projects to discuss many of whom are new to JVC Professional Europe”.
“It is important that there is an event such as IIPSEC that is focused on Networked Surveillance Technology, which is clearly the future. JVC are looking forward to having another successful event and hope to see the show go from strength to strength in the future”.
Alastair McLeod, Veracity UK - Exhibitor/Speaker
“If the industry is serious about deploying IP video it should, like Veracity, be taking an active role in IIPSEC this year”.
“As Veracity manufactures transmission, storage and display products specifically for the IP Video market, IIPSEC is the perfect fit for us. It enables us to spend valuable time with prospective customers, give visitors an opportunity to take a closer look at our products and for me to stand up in front of a 100 strong seminar audience and discuss some of the more thorny issues confronting the industry”.
John Downie, Sales Manager, CBC (Europe) Ltd. - Exhibitor/Speaker
“When it comes to promoting our networked CCTV products, IIPSEC is an important event for us. The show’s visitors have a real interest in Ganz surveillance systems and their complementary Computar lenses. As we extend our IP range this event will become even more important to us, and judging by how packed our stand was last year we can expect a really successful show this January".
“Our user-friendly VSoIP management system allows older CCTV equipment to be easily upgraded into fully functional IP-based systems, simply by adding interface boxes. Importantly, VSoIP works with a wide range of manufacturers’ products, enabling legacy systems to be easily integrated, as well as allowing the latest IP-based Ganz surveillance equipment to be added to a network too.
“VSoIP can manage CCTV systems from single site locations or multiple sites, allowing authorised users to view and record images from any remote locations via the network. Meanwhile, as part of the VSoIP management suite, VSoIP Video Wall Manager is an ideal solution for displaying multiple images. It connects directly to your IP CCTV network to display connected cameras and up to 25 cameras can be displayed on a single screen – making it an ideal partner for control rooms, monitoring centres and management suites."
Jan Jennings, Technetix - Exhibitor
"I do not think we can meet so many influential IP folk from our industry at any other event.”
“Visitors to the IIPSEC events see for themselves the latest innovations in technology from companies, such as Technetix, that enables them to add value to their own IP business opportunities in the security industry."
“IIPSEC attracts over 3000 IP focused attendees from the security industry that could become valued customers for IP and digital systems”.
“At IIPSEC 2007, Technetix launched our adapt-x range of equipment and as a result of the interest by the industry we were awarded 3 of the IP & Security Innovation Awards: Winner-Hardware, Innovation Award and IP UserGroup Membership Award”.
Greg Gregoriou, Complus Teltronic - Exhibitor/Speaker
“Integrating professional audio Intercom to an IP based security or access system is an obvious step, but getting the message across about the business opportunities this integration provides can prove challenging".
"IIPSEC has always been a good show for Complus Teltronic, the visitors and seminar delegates have an open mind to introducing new technologies into the mix and most have identified that IP has really opened the flood gates to business opportunity”.
Paul Green, Vianet Visitor/Exhibitor
“Vianet value IIPSEC because as an opportunity to meet potential customers in an environment that is conducive to open, friendly, constructive discussion, we received more than 114 leads last year and had a busy stand every day of the show.”
“We believe that most visitors use IIPSEC to explore new ideas and ways to approach solutions for their customers”.
Tim Northwood, Innerrange - Exhibitor
“I believe visitors get a very focused show in IIPSEC, it’s not overcrowded with irrelevant products and solutions. I guess as most of the visitors are genuine prospects coming to the show with either a project in mind to fulfill or looking for a solution to a problem we get fewer visitors than a general event but a much higher calibre of contact”.
